Sleep. Are you getting enough?

However much we try, most of us are not getting enough sleep.  The evening is never long enough to get everything done.  By the time we’ve got in from work, had something to eat, prepared for the next day, done some exercise and even completed a bit more work – it’s late.  No time to relax, watch TV or read the book that’s been sat on your bedside for months… By the time you get to bed, your mind is whirring and it’s hard to get that golden rest we all need before the alarm goes off.

Experts tell us that we should adopt a wind down routine.  Sticking to an actual bed time, dimming the lights, switching off screens, taking a warm bath and enjoying a milky drink.  This route allows us to go to bed feeling relaxed, encouraging us to fall asleep quicker and stay asleep for longer.

This all sounds ideal, but unfortunately for many of us, by the time we’ve got in from work, our evenings are just too short to release so much time for such a bed time routine.

This does open up a thoughtful debate about how we can set aside time to prioritise our health and wellbeing.  If you plotted a pie chart of the time you spend in your day focused on you, it’s probably the smallest chunk of time with work and commuting likely to be dominating the time in your day.  Commuting - what a dreadful way to waste precious time!

Commuting - what a dreadful way to waste precious time!

Have you ever considered living closer to work just for the working week? Having a weekday crash pad a stone’s throw from where you work, meaning that you get home a lot earlier and can leave for work a lot later in the mornings…sounds blissful. Think of all the time you will have in the evenings – there will be no reason to not get enough sleep and do all the things you need to do! This doesn’t have to be a day dream; it can be reality.

We are mondaytofriday.com and we advertise spare rooms available to rent for professionals on a part time basis.  Many of the rooms are in London, but there are plenty of properties all over the UK too.   By renting a room close to where you work Monday to Friday, you only have to do your commute just once and the rest of the time you could enjoy a leisurely stroll, or a short cycle to work – the choice is yours.

One size doesn’t fit all

There are so many different approaches to renting rooms for the working week that you are sure to find something which works for you. It may be Sunday – Thursday rather than Monday – Friday?  You may want to rent all year round, just for a few months or even a few weeks in some cases.  There are rooms with en-suites, gardens, fabulous views, cleaners, concierge, gyms and even some with pools!  The rooms are in flats, houses, swanky apartments, country cottages and even houseboats.  Sometimes the landlord/lady lives there too, sometimes they don’t. More often than not, they too are working hard in the week and you may just share an occasional chat and a cuppa.  They are looking for professional people like you to rent their spare room and make them a bit of extra pocket money and you an easier life Mon-Fri.

We’ve helped thousands of people to do this over more than a decade – taking away the stress and cost of the commute and adding in valuable time. It’s a really simple concept, and it works.

Sweet dreams!
